History of Darjeeling

But in February 1829 disputes about the boundaries between Nepal and Sikkim began again. At this time the Governor General of India was Lord William Bentinck and he tried to solve the problem.

During this process they realized that an outpost could be built in Darjeeling and that it was an excellent land for tea cultivation. British officials toured the place and admired its beauty.

Darjeeling later became an attractive tourist destination and earned the title of Queen of the Hills.

Nightingale Park

Best Time To Visit Darjeeling Tourism

The best time to visit Darjeeling is during the months of April to June. The temperature in Darjeeling was between 14 and 8 degrees Celsius during this time when other parts of the country are very hot.

A huge number of people are present here at this time. If you want to enjoy the cool weather then you can come here from November to mid December.

In this month, the temperature here is recorded at 6 degree Celsius and falls to 1 degree Celsius. The rainy season was heavy here and there were also landslides so this rainfall is reduced here.

by train

New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the nearest railway station here and is located at a distance of about 88 km from Darjeeling.

NJP is also connected to all the major cities of the country and most of the teachers stop at this junction to go to the northern state. Train options will also be ideal for traveling to Darjeeling.

by bus

Bus services are available from Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus Siliguri to reach Darjeeling, Mirik and Kalimpong. If you want to take a bus from Darjeeling, you have to reach Siliguri first.

After that you can reach Darjeeling in about three to three and a half hours by sharing buses or jeeps.
